The picture above is taken looking down on the village, its very picturesque with great views in all directions and we are on the south facing side to the valley. It is a farming village and the majority of the residents still make their living this way: tending animals in the pastures above, making cheese and honey, harvesting the many fruit trees and vegetable gardens around. Its very peaceful, there are no bars or restaurants in the village itself. We are situated on the hillside to the north west side of Bourg St Maurice which is just 5 mins drive away.
The walk across the fields takes just 15mins to Bourg, it’s a bit longer in deep snow conditions.
In the winter the village is lit up by many Christmas lights. In the summer it is awash with colour from the overwhelming number of flowers and plants that adorn the houses. The neighbours are friendly.
Bourg St Maurice
Bourg St Maurice is a sizeable, traditional Savoyard town with all the normal facilities.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants with a lovely pedestrian shopping street through the centre, a thronging Saturday market and frequent fetes and events.
There's three super markets, a tourist information centre (www.lesarcs.com/bourg-saint-maurice), a cinema, leisure centre with huge swimming pool complex with indoor and outdoor pools, ice skating, cross country skiing and the famous Beaufort cheese shop. Moreover, prices are much lower than you would find up in the resorts.
